What most holds the image back is the busy, undifferentiated foreground of rooftops in the lower third, which competes for attention without a clear anchor, and a horizon that sits low enough to hand a lot of frame to a fairly quiet sky. Verticals are largely honest and the colour transition is genuinely lovely.

The winding lit canal and roadway provide a strong diagonal that draws the eye into the city, and the layered receding towers build good depth. The horizon sits low, which suits the dramatic sky, but the lower-third jumble of rooftops lacks a clear anchor and reads as clutter. The right side carries most of the visual weight with the brighter tower cluster, leaving the left slightly emptier. A composition that used the canal more decisively as the spine, entering from a corner, would tie the scene together more firmly.

Excellent timing. The shot catches that narrow window where the sky still holds a graduated sunset band of orange into blue while the city's artificial lights have fully come alive. The warm sodium streetlights and canal reflections play against the cool upper sky for a satisfying temperature contrast. The light is naturally soft and even across the scene, avoiding harsh clipping. The glow silhouetting the distant skyline gives the horizon a pleasant separation. This is the kind of light that rewards patience, and it clearly shows here.

A capable balance for a high-dynamic-range moment. The sky gradient is held without blowing the brightest band, and the warm streetlights largely retain colour rather than clipping to white. Shadow areas in the foreground rooftops go fairly deep and murky, swallowing some detail in the lower buildings, though this reads as an acceptable trade to protect the sky. Midtones sit a touch dark overall, giving the foreground a heavy feel. A slightly lifted shadow region, or a gentle graduated recovery, would open the darker structures without harming the highlights.

The colour grade is the image's calling card: a clean warm-to-cool sky gradient meeting the amber wash of city lights, with the canal reflections carrying that warmth into the mid-frame. White balance is well judged, letting the tungsten glow stay orange while the sky reads believably cool. Contrast is a little heavy in the foreground, where saturated ambers verge on dense.
