A touch more room around the lower-left mass would settle the balance.

The lighting isolates the subject cleanly against black and rakes across the receptacle enough to model its pitted surface, which is the shot's best-lit passage. The seeds catch a rim of light that keeps their filaments legible. The fall-off into the background is clean and controlled. The trade-off is that the floating violet seeds sit in flatter, less directional light than the foreground, so they read as glowing tufts rather than detailed structures. A second, softer accent on the right-hand seeds would give them the same dimensional separation the seed head enjoys.

Exposure holds the textured receptacle in a usable midtone band and the black background stays clean without milky lift, which suits the dark-field approach. The brightest pappi cores edge toward clipping but mostly retain their delicate filament detail. The deepest shadows in the lower stems lose some separation, collapsing toward black earlier than ideal. Overall it reads deliberate rather than accidental. The seed head's dimpled receptacle and the brown attachment scales are crisp, with fine detail well resolved — clearly where the focus plane lands. But the floating violet pappi on the right, arguably the more lyrical subject, sit progressively softer the further they drift, so the eye-catching tufts never reach the same critical sharpness. For macro this is the central challenge: depth of field at these magnifications is razor-thin, and a single plane cannot hold both the seed head and the distant seeds. Focus stacking across several frames would bring both the receptacle and the floating pappi into resolution, which is what this composition really wants. The dark-field execution is otherwise clean, with no obvious noise intrusion and a background that stays genuinely black. The filaments retain enough fine detail to suggest a capable lens and steady support. Tightening the aperture alone would not solve it without stacking.
