A well-organised night cityscape that anchors a lit statue against the illuminated cathedral and a bracketed lamp post and flower basket. The long exposure renders smooth red light trails across the foreground bridge, adding motion and depth. What holds it back most is the slightly cramped vertical headroom above the statue and the heavy, near-empty black sky that dominates the upper third. The right-side lamp and flowers add colour but compete with the statue for attention. The cobwebs on the statue read as a distraction at full size. Strong execution overall, with composition and framing the clearest areas to refine.
The statue is placed near centre with the cathedral balancing left and the lamp/flower basket anchoring right — a deliberate, readable arrangement. The light trails sweep across the lower frame and pull the eye through. The weaknesses are the tight headroom above the statue, which crowds the figure against the upper edge, and the large expanse of featureless black sky that adds little. The right-hand lamp and basket are bright and saturated enough to pull focus from the main subject. A slightly wider vertical breathing room would settle the figure.
The mixed artificial lighting is handled well: the statue is cleanly lit and separated from the dark sky, the cathedral glows with warm floodlight, and the streetlamp produces a crisp, controlled sunstar. The distant skyline lights layer the scene with depth. The lamp's warmth and the cool statue light coexist without clashing badly. The main limitation is that the statue's frontal lighting is fairly flat, giving the figure less modelling than the textured cathedral facade enjoys. The overall balance of illuminated subjects against shadow is judged with care.
The -1.33 EV pull protects the bright streetlamp and the lit statue from blowing out, and most highlights hold detail — the lamp glass and flower basket retain texture. The black sky is intentionally dark and clean, suiting the night mood. The trade-off is that the foreground bridge balustrade and road sit quite deep in shadow, losing some structure. The brightest red light-trail cores clip toward white, which is hard to avoid at 25 seconds. Overall a controlled, deliberate exposure for the conditions.
Colour separation works: cool stone and statue against warm sodium-toned cathedral and lamp, with the saturated red trails and flowers providing accent. White balance leans warm on the lit buildings, which reads naturally for night. Contrast is healthy, with deep blacks anchoring the frame. The red light trails are slightly oversaturated and a touch hot in the cores, drawing more weight than ideal. Mid-tone gradation in the shadowed bridge is a little muddy. A gentler red saturation and lifted foreground shadows would refine the palette.
Settings are well chosen for the task. f/13 yields the deep depth of field needed to keep statue, cathedral and lamp all acceptably sharp, and it produces the clean, well-defined sunstar on the streetlamp. The 25-second shutter is the right call for rendering smooth, continuous vehicle light trails across the bridge, and ISO 250 keeps noise minimal in the dark sky and shadows. The 40mm focal length on the 24-70 gives a natural perspective that includes context without distortion. Focus appears placed on the statue and holds well across the frame. Two refinements: f/13 on this sensor sits near the onset of diffraction, so f/9–f/11 might recover a hair of critical sharpness while still covering the depth needed; and a sturdier setup or mirror-lockup discipline ensures the long exposure stays free of micro-vibration. The cobweb strands on the statue are a real-world distraction better cloned out in post than blamed on the gear. Solid, intentional technical work.
