A capable aerial of a rocky headland that reads clearly and uses the diagonal coastline well, but the frame is split between too many competing zones — the green rocky promontory, the crowded beach and skyline up top, and a vast expanse of empty water below. That lower water dominates more than half the frame without enough interest to justify it, while the most compelling element, the headland, sits cramped against the upper edge. Midday light flattens the rock texture and the haze over the distant city softens the whole top band. Strong colour separation and clean execution keep it competent; tighter framing and better light would lift it.

Composition
6.2 / 10

The diagonal sweep from the beach down through the rocky headland gives the frame a natural line, and the green water provides clean contrast. But the balance is off — the lower half is almost entirely featureless water that swallows the frame, while the headland, the real subject, is pushed high and crowded by the busy city band above. The scattered submerged rocks in the foreground try to fill the void but feel incidental. A tighter crop favouring the headland and immediate coastline would concentrate the interest considerably.

The light reads as high, near-midday sun, which flattens the rock face and renders the headland's texture without the raking shadow that would give it depth and dimension. The beach and city band sit under atmospheric haze, softening detail and muting contrast across the top of the frame. There is some pleasing sheen on the water where light catches the surface, but overall the timing works against the subject. Lower-angle light would model the granite and lengthen shadows for far more drama.

Exposure is handled cleanly with no significant clipping — the bright sand and pale rock hold detail, and the deep green water retains tonal information throughout. The histogram appears well controlled for a high-contrast aerial scene. Shadows in the rock crevices stay readable rather than blocking up. The hazy upper band sits a touch flat, but that is atmosphere rather than exposure error. A slightly darker rendering of the water might have added richness, but the brightness decisions appear deliberate and balanced.

The emerald-to-teal gradient in the water is the strongest tonal feature, reading vividly against the warm sand and grey granite. White balance leans slightly warm but suits the coastal scene. Saturation in the greens is pushed but stays believable. The rock tones carry good warmth, and the foliage on the headland separates well. The main weakness is the hazy upper third, where contrast collapses and the city greys out. Dehazing that band would restore tonal punch where the scene currently goes soft.

The drone's fixed 6.7mm lens at f/1.7 is wide open here, but at this small sensor and aerial distance everything is effectively at infinity, so depth of field is a non-issue and the whole scene holds acceptable sharpness. ISO 100 keeps noise negligible, and 1/800s easily freezes any motion from the drone or the water, eliminating blur. Focus is accurate across the frame. The main technical limitation is the lens itself — wide-angle drone optics show mild softening and chromatic smearing toward the corners, visible in the upper city detail, which the haze compounds. Execution is otherwise clean: stable, level horizon, no visible motion artefacts. The settings are well chosen for the conditions; there is little to fault in the capture itself. The constraint is optical and atmospheric rather than operator error. Shooting in clearer air or at a lower sun angle would let this sensor and lens deliver more across the distant portion of the frame.

what would elevate it

1. A tighter crop favouring the headland and beach would cut the empty lower water and concentrate the interest.
2. Lower-angle light near golden hour would model the granite texture and add shadow depth the midday sun flattens.
3. Dehazing the upper city band in post would restore contrast and detail lost to atmospheric softening.
